These are my notes for setting up a BIND DNS server on OpenBSD. The instructions here work for OpenBSD 3.9.

  • Step 1: Edit named.conf
  • Step 2: Start BIND and do initial tests
  • Step 3: Configure rndc
  • Step 4: Test rndc
  • Step 5: Set up forwarding
  • Step 6: Set BIND to start when computer boots
  • Step 7: Add a Master Zone
  • Step 8: Add a Reverse Zone files
